Bahai Religion

Bahaism - religion founded in Iran in the mid-19th century by Mirza Hoseyn ‘Ali Nuri, who is known as Baha` Ullah (Arabic: “Glory of God”). The cornerstone of Baha`i belief is the conviction that Baha` Ullah and his forerunner, who was known as the Bab, were manifestations of God, who in his essence is unknowable. The principal Baha`i tenets are the essential unity of all religions and the unity of humanity. Baha`is believe that all the founders of the world’s great religions have been manifestations of God and agents of a progressive divine plan for the education of the human race. Despite their apparent differences, the world’s great religions, according to the Baha`is, teach an identical truth. Baha` Ullah’s peculiar function was to overcome the disunity of religions and establish a universal faith. Baha`is believe in the oneness of humanity and devote themselves to the abolition of racial, class, and religious prejudices. The great bulk of Baha`i teachings is concerned with social ethics; the faith has no priesthood and does not observe ritual forms in its worship.

Angels in Judaic View

by Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis

In Judaism an angel is a spiritual entity in the service of God. Angels play a prominent role in Jewish thought throughout the centuries, though the exact meaning of the word has been subject to widely, at times wildly, different interpretations.

A number of numinous creatures subordinate to God appear through the Hebrew Bible; the Malach (messenger/angel) is only one variety. Others, distinguished from angels proper, include Irinim (Watchers/High Angels), Cherubim (Mighty Ones), Sarim (Princes), Seraphim (Fiery Ones), Chayyot ([Holy] Creatures), and Ofanim (Wheels). Collective terms for the full array of numina serving God include: Tzeva, (Host), B’nei ha-Elohim or B’nai Elim (Sons of God), and Kedoshim (Holy Ones). They are constituted in an Adat El, a divine assembly (Ps. 82; Job 1). A select number of angels in the Bible (three to be precise) have names. They are Michael, Gabriel, and Satan. Read more

Saint Herman of Alaska

SAINT HERMAN OF ALASKA, the first “American” saint, was the first to bring Orthodoxy to this continent. He came to America as a young monk in 1794 as part of the original Russian Orthodox mission to Alaska. He lived there until his repose, and for more than four decades taught the natives by word and example. With his own severe asceticism a secret, he ministered to both physical and spiritual needs of the people. And his memory is preserved, fresh and personal, among their descendents to this day. Ironically, however, he is unknown to so many other Americans. By his prayers may we, also, truly receive the Gospel he brought and follow the way that he taught. Read more

The Occult Symbolism of Yasin

The occult tradition of the West is filled with ritual references and influences based on the Old and New Testaments. The Quran has had similar influences on the ritual practices of many mystics and magicians. The reason for this is that the Quran lends itself well to mystical and occult interpretation. Much occult symbolism can be found through certain chapters (Suras) in the Quran. One of the most prominent is the Surah known as Ya-Syin. For hundreds of years, this chapter has been used extensively in rituals of planetary magick. The actual word Ya-Syin is composed of two letters, Ya (Yod) and Syin (Samech). These two letters form an occult code which many Islamic scholars have attempted to break. Many of them believe that these two letters represent Ya, “a method of announcement”, and Syin “a short version of Insan or Man”. Orthodox Islamic scholars have argued that Syin stands not for all men, but for the King of Men or the Prophet Mohammed himself. Occultists have argued against this myopic perception and postulated that it represents the Perfect Human (Primordial Man or Adam Kadmon). Read more

Ahura Mazda

The supreme god in Zoroastrianism.

While there are historical sources indicating that Ahura Mazda comes from indo-iranian religions, in which there were two categories of gods, ahuras and daivas, Ahura Mazda only appears in connection with Zoroastrianism, the religion that has its origins in the preaching of Zarathustra, around 600 BCE.
